Matt Wetherall - FWR Workshop and Shop Manager ( Part 1 )

So, for those that follow my racing, I’m moving onto new ventures.

I have so enjoyed racing minitwins, I’ve learnt so much from that class, things that I can take onto bigger more powerful bikes. However I think three years is enough and I’m certainly not getting any younger.

I won the rookie championship in 2019 the MRO class in 2020 and gave my best shot at defending it this year.

So for next year I’m moving across to an in-line 4 600. So a different class and also a different discipline, endurance. Also not on my own as the name suggests, I will be part of a team that at the moment consists of two riders, myself and Tom Vaughan.

Tom came 2nd in Rookie 600s with Bemsee in 2019 and in 2020 came 2nd in Clubman 600 too. His 2021 season started badly with his Yamaha R6 dropping a valve prior to the season starting this year. If that wasn’t bad enough he also had a ZX10 that did the same thing at the second meeting of this year. So he’s had a frustrating year.

Tom is an ex serviceman from the RAF but I don’t hold that against him. I know we will make a good team and cannot wait to get things underway in March with No Limits Racing.

Team manager is Martyn Kempsford another ex serviceman however he’s from the Royal Navy, we worked out that we were on the same ship for about an hour in Miami back in 1991 ?

Jordan Will be our dedicated spanner man, he has worked for Steve Jordan before joining FWR Ltd last year and then he found himself upping sticks and moving to Oxford, a racer himself and having helped out with our Endurance race on the minitwins last October he is going to be a valuable asset.

I’ve got the help of Duncan Stanton of Lamonde Automation Ltd who has been supporting my racing exploits for the last 3 years. He will be on hand at most events with Alan Hensby who was 3rd place at Bemsee Minitwin rookies in 2019 and of course my Dad, John Wetherell who will be there casting his eye for detail over all that is going on around, as well as helping me get dressed and undressed, yes even at my age.

Tom will have the help of Dan Slade and Claire Slade who will have to like this page to get tagged. Really nice people who have helped Tom and myself out for the last three years too.

There’s plenty of jobs to be done, from making the tea to doing the pit board and everything in between. So if you come to support don’t be surprised to get roped into all the fun.

I’ll update everyone as things start to come together leading upto the start of the season.
